| Sorry to post another question so soon, but I'm at my wits' end! There may be a better community for this, and if you direct me there, I'll check it out, but in the meantime you hipsters give great advice & there IS a pets tag, so I figured I'm okay to ask this here, too!
I have a three-month old kitten. I am cat-sitting for a friend for a month. The visiting cat is 17 years old. Kitten has claws, cat does not. Cat is as sweet as can be, as is kitten, but the kitten WILL NOT LEAVE THE CAT ALONE. She is just playing, I believe, but since she has claws and is so much younger, I'm worried about the older cat.
What will happen is the kitten will jump on the cat, grab his belly or his neck. She does not seem to be clawing or biting hard (hence why I think it's just play; it also happens when she's in a 'hyper' mood). The cat cries, growls, and swipes at her, but since he has no claws it doesn't do any good.
I'm not sure how he feels about it. He doesn't look or sound happy. Yet there are 'safe areas' in the house where he could hang out, and often does, but sometimes he comes out of them and stays around her, which makes me wonder how much he really minds it.
Anyhow, I have tried using a water spray bottle on her, to no avail. I have tried a vinegar spray, to no avail. She just goes right back to leaping all over him. I can't keep one or the other locked up for any long period of time.
Please help! How can I tell what is play and what is not? Any suggestions to get her to stop terrorizing him, if that is what she is doing? | comments: Leave a comment |
| So, there are things that are so WTF that I haven't even been writing them in my lj because they are so WTF. I mean, like things that are so not me, or are so out there, or so... I don't know. Things I didn't want to jinx, I suppose. I don't even remember what I wrote about in here and what I didn't write about. Did I write about taking vocal lessons? I don't even remember, and I've been doing that for like a year and a half now. So anyway, I'll list some recent stuff that's been happening:
* Signed up for improv workshop at Nissan Nativ acting school. Softspoken me with the stage fright takes the bus once a week after work to south Tel Aviv to interact with others unpreparedly. Even though I hate people and I hate going out of the house and I like to sleep and. Turns out it's a lot of fun.
* Ended things with Tel Aviv University. Just broke up with it, for reals. Which brings me to-
* Signed up for Wizo Haifa Design Academy, one of the top three design schools in the country. I wouldn't have mentioned this to begin with, but I actually passed stage 1 and now I'm after stage 2 and waiting for an answer on whether or not I'm actually in and I'm super nervous. This could mean a whole bunch of things. I'm nervous.
* Want sandwich.
* Prozac still not working.
* Lost a bunch of weight. I think if I lose 3kg I'll be fine. If I lose 1kg then I'll be back to my pre-Italy weight. No, I lie. I'll be back to last summer's weight, because I gained like a kilo during the winter before I went. Anyway now I am back to normal except I'm on my period and nervous which is not normal unless one is a woman which I am so I guess normal yeah kthxhai. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I know I'm most likely going to get laughed at for this, but it's worth a shot.
I either lost my camera or it was stolen at Speakeasy last Friday on my birthday.
Who knows if it is broken/ being used/ in a trashcan. All I really care about is my full memory card. I tried craigslist- is there anywhere else online I could try in case someone has a heart?
It was a pink canon powershot, and I hadn't taken the pictures off in awhile. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| This is a longshot, but I won't know unless I ask!
My partners and I have finally decided that we actually really like where we live. We do, however, need more room than our home has to offer and don't feel that renting a storage unit is an acceptable longterm solution. We've decided that a second floor addition is the way to go. We've seen a few homes in our development go through this process and, from the outside, the results look great. :)
Have you ever gone through this process? Are you close to anyone who did? What was it like? Was it worth it for you/them? How long did you have to be out of your home for during the process? I know there's a lot that would be involved before we could even get started with the addition... like testing to make sure the foundation could hold everything. So anything you can tell me is appreciated!
And sort of on a tangent. If you've done major work to your home or yard that's visible from the outside, how do you feel (or would you feel) about a stranger knocking on your door to tell you it's awesome and to ask about your builder and the process? I'd like to think that people are proud of their improvements, and would welcome such a thing, but I want to see what the community thinks as I might be crazy.
Lastly, is there a more appropriate LJ community for home ownership questions like this?

| Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are planning on moving from the Hell that is Abilene to Austin next month. Currently I'm living with my mom so this whole moving to a new city thing is pretty scary! I live about 4 1/2 hours away so it's difficult to come and look for jobs and all that. I'll be visiting the 15 and 16 with my mom, however. I have an apartment locator helping me but my mom is worried that due to the current economic situation apartments won't even talk to me about leasing if I don't have a job in Austin. I have a job in Abilene, though. Should I bring pay stubs from the job I have now? Basically tell them that I'm going to find a job in Austin ASAP and let my mom co-sign?
Do y'all have any advice on this? Know any places that are hiring, especially places where I can apply online in advance?
Thanks so much, can't wait to be a part of this beautiful city. :) | comments: 11 comments or Leave a comment |

| So, even more computer issues. I think they were related to the broken internet issues, so I finally did a total restart on the compy and it fixed everything. I HATE when my computer gives me problems. I always feel like I'm getting an ulcer. On a good note, I JUST BOUGHT A NEW LAPTOP. This is something I've been planning for about five months, so it's nice to finally have one on order. Anyways, thanks for any clicks you can spare my creatures. Have a good night, ya'll.

I was seriously craving some boiled peanuts this weekend, but I wanted to try something a little different than the peanuts of my childhood. These were a successful experiment! The sriracha wasn't overpowering, the ginger was a surprising little bit of warmth and they were JUST salty enough. A really great counterpoint to the miserable, dark day we had out here.

| Underneath the colors of the Tent of Tomorrow was the world's largest roadmap. Sponsored by Texaco, this giant facsimile of the Rand McNally map of New York state was composed of large squares of polished Terrazzo. The Map was one of the most popular features of the World's Fair, especially among residents of New York, who"walked the map" looking for their home town. For the 1965 season, many more towns were added to the map at the request of fairgoers who noticed their town missing during the 1964 season.

| Hi all: I've had a rough couple of weeks - to put it simply, have been stressing, drinking, and eating too much (yay for summer vacation and friends from out of town, boo for boy drama!) Now I'm ready to get 'back to normal,' and just to make things more interesting, I have an important event on Tuesday that I'd like to attend looking my best.
So, I'm looking for detox-style suggestions, for both the mind and body, to recleanse/ rejuvenate. I'm already drinking a ton of water, and planning on plenty of vitamins and fresh fruits all day tomorrow. I'm also hoping to take a long hot bath and get a good night's sleep.
But... I'd love some suggestions for how you pamper yourself to feel pretty and help get your system back to normal. Even if they're not all that scientific or don't have 'proven' results - what do you do to recharge? Bonus points for things that are simple and inexpensive or involve ingredients I might already have at home! I'm thinking about good facial or body treatments, easy exercises, makeup tricks, homemade bath soaks, anything at all that will put me in a positive energy mood (and maybe help me recover faster, too!)

| Perfect Lentil Soup
Ingredients 1 cup dried lentils (picked through for rocks) 8 Cups water 1 smoked Pig Knuckle 2 tbs Sriracha Chili Paste 1 (8oz) can Tomato Sauce 2 clove garlic, minced 1/2 yellow onion, minced ¼ cup Pancetta, diced (optional) Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Directions In a large saucepan add water, pig knuckle, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, and chili paste. Bring to rolling boil. Lower heat to simmer, add lentils. Simmer 40-50 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add Pancetta and simmer for 10 more minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Remove pig knuckle before serving.
I'm sure this would be easy to modify to Vegetarian by omitting the pig knuckle and Pancetta. I would use a good veggie broth instead of all or part of the water.
The Sriracha really gives it a great spicy kick. | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |
| | Hey. I'm about to move to Austin for AmeriCorps. I'll be moving in with two other people who are also coming from other states. We know we want to rent/lease a house. Any ideas on good leasing agents? | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
