Long day. These double-appointment days aren't just exhausting, they're bad for my eating as well because I tend to be away from home so long that I either have to skip a meal or I end up eating my third meal very very late, and then have to wait up for two hours to test.

Luckily, it's probably close to being over.

Talking to the perinatologist's nurse again today to get more details, it looks like our guess of how this is going to go will probably be right, barring any unexpected discoveries at the next ultrasound/monitoring on Friday. If Peo is a satisfactory size, we'll likely be sent for an amnio either the following Monday or Tuesday, and if that shows her lungs as developed, they'll probably either induce on Thursday or book me for a c-section on Friday (that's when my OB-GYN does his scheduled c-sections that week), depending on whether a c-section is warranted.

It is possible that, depending on spaces available, it could all get shifted by a few days, meaning the induction or c-section could happen the following Monday or Tuesday instead. But the nurse confirmed our suspicions that they don't book these things on weekends, and the OB/GYN said if it's induction, it won't likely be a Friday because they assume it takes 12-24 hours. If it's induction, he said they'll probably want us to check in Thursday evening.

If it's going to be a scheduled thing, it's best for us if it starts on a Thursday because that gives Corran the most amount of time before his next class (he teaches Mondays and Wednesdays), which might even mean he doesn't miss a class at all, depending on how sane he is the following Monday.

So that's the current projection.

I know I said I'd scan the ultrasound from last Friday today, but it's downstairs and I'm incredibly lazy/tired. Besides, it looks like in a week and a half I'll have better pics to share. :)

While waiting to be able to do my blood test tonight, I wrote up a tutorial for my website on using double-pointed knitting needles. It's not posted yet, though, because I want to proof-read it tomorrow. I'll also make a knitting gallery tomorrow and post that as well. But for now, I have photos to share of the knitted DNA. I showed it to folks at the OB/GYN's office (they keep noticing my other knitting and are amused by it, especially when I get tons done waiting in their clinic for hours since the doc is frequently triple-booked), and now they all want one, including the doc himself, his med student, his nurse, the receptionists...

I don't think I'm going to make ten thousand of these things to give away, but the nurse thinks I should start a business. :) Unfortunately, that makes it work, and I'm a very lazy person!

Here are the pics:

The next two show how springy this is, making it a nifty toy well beyond its scientific model purposes:

Ohhh knitted DNA, that's so cute!!!! Now she has to become a biologist with great toys like that ;)

Thanks! She could also become some kind of evil supervillain who tinkers with DNA. :D

That could be great too! (I'm such a vilain at heart ^^) But that toy was awesome!

Knitted DNA? You are so fucking cool. What an awesome idea.

I am so fucking nerdy, you mean. You just like it because you're a nerd too. :D

That is the coolest thing EVER.

If you ever do start selling em, I may want one!

Heeee...if I ever have that level of organization and work ethic, I'll announce it here first. :D

While not as cool as assembling DNA from amino acids, knitting DNA is mighty keen. And since you, unlike the rest of us, do both, that makes you extra keen.

Thanks. :D Although do I count as having assembled Peo's DNA when it actually happened in a dish outside of my body? I think the embryologist technically gets the credit on that one.

Maybe I felt the need to knit DNA because I didn't really make Peo's. :)

You make DNA all the time whenever you make new cells. It's not like the DNA faerie comes in to do that. And you made the DNA in your ovae (and daddy did his work, too). The embryologist just was the yenta that did a little matchmaking. You and Peo are doing all the heavy lifting in the cellular construction business.

You and your knitted DNA rule the world. And possibly the internet.

Neat! You should sing her this while she plays with it:

Oh that's so cool! Must share that with Corran. He's already singing her They Might Be Giants nerdy educational music. :) Thanks!

These are pretty cool. I'm envisioning a whole "science-themed" line of knitted toys....for the child geek. ;) Atoms, various molecules, cells, bacteria, enzymes, etc.

You can actually buy virus and bacteria stuffed toys...I've seen them around the internet before. They're adorable, but a bit pricey for small stuffed toys so I never looked seriously into getting one.

And yes, the point is in part to hopefully raise a little geek. :D
